NEW SCA Skills Programmes

The New SCA Skills Programmes offer comprehensive knowledge and training enabling learners to apply in an industry setting. Each programme requires a combination of advanced-level learning and foundational coursework.

SCA Cafe Skills Programme

A collection of courses designed to prepare learners for leadership in creating, preparing, and promoting Specialty Coffee experiences while communicating with customers and colleagues about the retailer’s role in promoting a more sustainable coffee industry.

SCA Roastery Skills Programme

A collection of courses designed to prepare learners for leadership in the development, production and quality assurance of roasted coffee while communicating with customers and colleagues about the roaster’s role in promoting a more sustainable coffee industry.

SCA Coffee Trade Programme

A collection of courses designed to prepare the learner for leadership in the handling, evaluation, and trade of green coffee while communicating with customers and colleagues about their role in promoting a more sustainable coffee industry.

SCA Sustainable Coffee Programme

A collection of courses designed to prepare the learner for leadership in the development and implementation of best practices and special projects that promote a more sustainable coffee industry, while having a broad understanding of the skills applied in different sectors of the supply chain.

Retiring the SCA Coffee Diploma (100-point Diploma)

The current SCA Coffee Diploma (also known as the 100-point Diploma) will remain available for an extended transition period. Those qualifying for the SCA Coffee Diploma may still apply using this form through December 31, 2023. Then, the SCA Coffee Diploma will be completely replaced by the SCA Skills Diploma.

The 100-point Diploma is exclusive to the Coffee Skills Program (CSP) and is awarded to learners who earned 100 or more points with CSP courses. Each CSP course is assigned a point value. 

The points awarded at each level are listed below:
Introduction to Coffee = 10 points
Foundation = 5 points
Intermediate = 10 points
Professional = 25 points

SCA Skills Programmes key information

  • The SCA Skills Programme must be completed at Bettr Academy within 18 months from the date of signing up for the first course required to fulfil the programme.

  • Upon completion of the intermediate courses, learners may register for the professional modules three months thereafter.

  • Past students who have attained the previous SCA Coffee Diploma are eligible to enrol in outstanding courses and can apply for the new SCA Skills Programme.
