SCTP in Beverage Service (Specialty Tea)

The SkillsFuture Career Transition Programme (SCTP) is open to all self-sponsored Singaporeans and Singapore Permanent Residents who are looking for training opportunities to transition to a job role in the food services industry.


Course Overview

The SkillsFuture Career Transition Programme (SCTP) in Beverage Service will equip mid-career individuals, including those in employment, with the right skills to make career transitions in the Food Services sector. The various technical and soft skill courses will equip individuals with skills and competencies to work effectively and efficiently in food and beverage service establishments focusing on specialty beverages.

The objective of the SCTP in Beverage Service (Specialty Tea) programme is to prepare learners for more complex job functions in the specialty tea profession. Learners will be introduced to the six major teas, processing methods and flavour profiles of each unique tea type. The theoretical components will enhance learners' product knowledge of a tea service professional and build confidence in making food and tea pairing recommendations. Learners will also be taught the principles of tea brewing methods and learn to prepare and serve specialty tea in accordance with standard tea service guidelines.

The programme is conducted in a blended learning mode comprising asynchronous and synchronous eLearning and in-person practicals.

Course Duration

The SCTP in Beverage Service (Specialty Tea) is offered as a part-time course, with a duration of 3 months.

Total duration: 185.5 hours

*Individuals must be Singapore Citizens and meet one of the following eligibility criteria:
a) Long-term unemployed individuals (unemployed for six months or more); or
b) Individuals in need of financial assistance – ComCare, Short-to-Medium Term Assistance (SMTA) recipients or Workfare Income Supplement (WIS) recipients; or
c) Persons with Disabilities

    • Self-Sponsored Singapore Citizens, Singapore Permanent Residents, and Long-term Visit Pass Plus holders (“LTVP+ Holders”) who are above 21 years of age.
    • WPLN Level 2 (Speak, Listen, Read, Numeracy) and Level 2 (Write).
    • Fit for long hours of work in the Food Services industry.
    • Fully vaccinated (Covid Vaccine) - If a learner is not fully vaccinated, they will need to complete vaccination before job placement.
    • Committed to completing the programme.
    • No working experience is required.
  • Basic computer and digital literacy to be able to attend online lessons on Zoom and eLearning platforms (asynchronous and synchronous learning).

  • Trainee must secure a job between the point of course commencement to 6 months after completing the SCTP, subject to the inclusion and exclusion criteria, and remain employed for 6 months.

    • Interested individuals should register interest in the programme via the online form.
    • After registration, individuals will be contacted for a pre-enrolment screening.
    • Priority will be given to candidates who are unemployed and seeking to enter the food services industry and individuals working in the food services industry and seeking to upgrade their skills.


  • The SCTP is open to all Singaporeans and Singapore Permanent Residents (at least 21 years old in the calendar year of programme commencement) who are looking for training opportunities to transit to a new sector or job role. As the employment status of the learner is not an eligibility criterion for SCTP, SSG is not imposing specific restrictions against the enrolment of such individuals. Both unemployed and employed individuals can participate in SCTP courses, as long as they can fulfil training commitments, including minimum attendance requirements and passing of assessments.

    Training Providers will prioritise individuals who intend to continue contributing to the workforce and meet the programme’s objectives.

  • No, only self-sponsored individuals are eligible for SCTP.

  • Trainees can pay the fees modularly. The nett fees per course are to be paid upfront before course commencement but enrolment to the SCTP course bundle must be done at the onset.

  • Trainees are encouraged to complete all modules under a SCTP to fully benefit from the intent of the programme. Similar to existing requirements for other training grants administered by SSG, trainees must fulfill minimum attendance requirements and pass the assessments to qualify for course fee subsidies. Trainees who are unable to meet these requirements, or exit the programme without a valid reason, may be asked to return the course fee subsidy that they have received, including any additional course fee funding support.
