A Newfound Confidence Through Making and Serving Coffee

Growing up, Azhar fell in with the wrong crowd — drawn into gang life at a young age, surrounded by peer influence that pulled him further from school and further from the version of himself he could have been. Eventually, he dropped out entirely. By his late teens, he was carrying a story that many people had already written off.
Then, in 2021, Azhar joined the BWT programme.
He was captivated by Bettr's social mission and the opportunity to learn about speciality coffee. The programme gave Azhar the confidence to do things that he was previously afraid of trying.
Today, he continues his studies in Chemical Process at ITE East while freelancing with Bettr. If you've been to one of our coffee events, there's a good chance you've had a cup made by him.
"They see something in me that I don't. If they do, then why shouldn't I?”
