Meet Shafiq, a graduate of the Bettr Work Training Programme’s 7th intake, whose journey is a testament to resilience and personal growth. Starting from sewing wedding dresses and honing skills in embroidery and knitting, Shafiq was able to put themselves to school and graduate with a diploma in nursing.
Joining Bettr was a pivotal moment for Shafiq. It became a pathway to meaningful experiences and valuable lessons, teaching them the importance of setting boundaries and embracing their true self.
One cherished memory for Shafiq is a disagreement they had with a coursemate. In a diverse group of individuals facing various challenges, conflicts were expected. However, what touched Shafiq was their coursemate's initiative to apologise, showcasing the bond and understanding they shared within the group.
“They don't look down on me, but they also don't put me on a pedestal" Shafiq recalls. The emotional support and mutual respect within the Bettr community made all the difference. Shafiq emphasises that Bettr sees you as an adult with unique experiences, understanding that life often lacks the guidance needed. The programme steps in to provide that support and guide individuals toward their potential.
